ALGAE GROWTH IS QUITE COMMON IN AQUARIUMS AND CAN BECOME A

PROBLEM WHEN CONDITIONS FAVOUR THE GROWTH OF ALGAE.

ALGAE IS A PLANT,LIGHT DOES NOT CAUSE ALGAE GROWTH,IT JUST

ALLOWS THE ALGAE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ANY NUTRIENTS IN THE WATER

YOUR TANK SHOULD NOT BE IN A POSITION WHERE IT IS IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT.

NUTRIENTS THAT CAUSE PROBLEMS ARE NITRATE ,PHOSPHATE AND SILICATES

NUTRIENT SOURCES ARE WATER,EXCESSIVE FOOD OR POOR QUALITY FOOD THAT IS HIGH IN PHOSPHATES,FERTILISERS,DIRTY FILTERS,FISH WASTE,TOO MANY FISH.

TESTING SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT FOR ANY UNDESIRABLE COMPOUNDS.

INTRODUCING HERBIVORES FISH CAN HELP.

LIGHTS SHOULD BE ON FOR NO MORE THAN 10 HOURS PER DAY.

WRONG OR EXPIRED LIGHTING TUBES CAN ALSO HELP TO PROMOTE ALGAE GROWTH

TO RECTIFY ALGAE GROWTH YOU WILL NEED TO DO  REGULAR WATER CHANGES CLEAN YOUR FILTER MORE, ENSURE THAT YOU ARE CLEANING YOUR GRAVEL WITH THE SIPHON DURING WATER CHANGES WATER,REDUCE YOUR  BIO LOAD, USE OF AN ALGAECIDE,ADD EXTRA PLANTS AND THE USE OF CHEMICAL FILTRATION WILL HELP
